Marc Singer made one of his largest contributions to SF in this huge miniseries (his largest is probably "Beastmaster" which keeps TBS from ever having to transmit static). The original 4-hour miniseries has been released on tape. I'm not sure if it will have the same impact as our first shocking views of the Visitors strange culinary appetites did in the original airing, but there is still plenty to please. Make sure to check out Robert Englund (a.k.a. Freddy Krueger) sans makeup as one of the nice Visitors.
The Stand
The incredibly ambitious mini-series comes to video on August 17. All 6 hours will be included in the package. It stars Rob Lowe (in his best role IMO), Molly Ringwald, Laura San Giacomo, Matt Frewer, and Gary Sinise, now famous for his legless adventures in Forrest Gump. I'm one of the guys that read the book and said this adaption was impossible, but I have to admit, though the thing is flawed, it was an excellent adaption. I wish some characters would not have given short shrift and the casting was not always the way I would have done it, but all in all it is a very satisfying job. If you haven't read the book, at least see the movie. (You sloth!)
Leprechaun 2
I have no idea what they have in mind, but its coming. I kind of liked the first one, so I thought I'd let you in on it.
The Evil Within
Another killer baby flick. Coming September 21. No advance copy to view.
Ed and His Dead Mother
Just a warning. This movie is nowhere near as good as its cover lets on. Great idea and some quality actors are thrown away on this direct-to-video mess. The idea is Ed loses his mother and brings him back to life. Problem is Mom has contracted the annoying habit of killing local dogs and even some of the neighbors. John Glover is good as the salesman that re-animates mama, but it nowhere near saves this bomb. Save your rental money.
I would like someone who could write SHORT reviews of SF movies coming to vid in the future. As soon as one comes out on video, write a review and send it as e-mail to me at Tim.K@vircomm.COM or TimKBear on AOL. I appreciate all contributions. If you have your name on a review, I'll keep it on there. If you want to be anonymous, I'll respect those wishes as well.
